Rosemary Oil

Rosemary essential oil may have health benefits, including supporting brain function and hair growth, among others.

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is an evergreen shrub with linear needle-like leaves which have glandular hairs that emit fragrant volatile essential oils (1Trusted Source).

Though best known as a food seasoning, it is one of the most popular aromatic and medicinal plants worldwide (2).

Rosemary’s essential oil — which holds the plant’s core components, or essence — is extracted and sold in small bottles (1Trusted Source, 3Trusted Source).

Due to rosemary oil’s history of having medicinal benefits, there has been interest in using the oil in development of new drugs, as reported in a 2018 update review (4Trusted Source).

Though most of this research is just beginning, it supports some traditional uses of the oil and illustrates possible new uses.
